Using Control Center, environments, and immersive modes
Multitasking with multiple windows placed around your room
Setting up your Persona for FaceTime and video calls
Navigating essential apps like App Store, Apple TV, Safari, and Disney+
📦 What's in the Box?
The Vision Pro comes with everything you need to get started:
Apple Vision Pro headset (with Solo Knit Band pre-attached)
Dual Loop Band (alternative band with a top strap)
Light Seal Cushion (a backup cushion for a better fit)
Battery pack with proprietary connector
30W USB-C power adapter and USB-C charging cable
Polishing cloth with the Apple Vision Pro logo
Quick start booklet with setup instructions
ZEISS Optical Inserts (if you ordered them with your prescription)
🔍 Quick Tip: Always pick up the Vision Pro by the front of the device, not by the light seal. The light seal is magnetically attached and will detach if you grab it the wrong way.
🔋 Step 1: Connecting the Battery Pack
The Vision Pro doesn't have an internal battery — it's powered externally for weight reduction.
Take the battery pack out of the box
Connect the proprietary cable to the side of the Vision Pro
Twist the connector from the empty dot to the solid dot to lock it in place
Put the battery in your pocket or clip it to your clothing
The pack provides about 2 hours of usage on a full charge
⚠️ Important Note: The battery pack must always be connected for the Vision Pro to work. Plan to keep the cable routed comfortably along your body, especially during longer sessions.
👓 Step 2: Installing ZEISS Optical Inserts (If You Wear Glasses)
If you ordered prescription inserts with your Vision Pro:
Open the ZEISS Optical Inserts box
Take the left insert and align it over the left display
The insert will snap magnetically into place
Repeat for the right insert
Scan the app clip code when prompted to pair the lenses to your device
🔍 Quick Tip: The inserts have small R and L markings to indicate which side they belong on. Don't force them — if they're not magnetically clicking, you have the wrong side.
🎯 Step 3: First-Time Setup and Eye Tracking Calibration
Once you put the Vision Pro on, you'll be guided through calibration:
Press and hold the Digital Crown to align the device
Look at the dot and tap your fingers together to select it
Repeat for multiple dots in different positions to calibrate eye tracking
Align your face in the frame and slowly turn your head left, then right
Tilt your head up and down to complete the scan
Make a few facial expressions (smile closed, smile open, raise eyebrows)
Capture complete!
👆 The Core Gestures You Need to Master
The Vision Pro has no controllers. Everything works through your eyes (for cursor) and your fingers (for clicking).
The Essential Gestures
Tap / Click → Bring your index finger and thumb together once
Scroll → Pinch your fingers together and drag up or down
Zoom In → Pinch with both hands and pull them apart
Zoom Out → Pinch with both hands and bring them together
Drag / Move Window → Look at the bottom bar, pinch, and move your hand
Open Apps → Look at the app icon and tap your fingers together
▶️ Try This Now: Look at any app icon on your home screen, then bring your index finger and thumb together for just a moment. The app will open instantly — no need to touch anything.
⚙️ Accessing Control Center (The Trick Most People Miss)
Control Center isn't activated by looking up with your head — it's activated by looking up with your eyes.
Roll your eyes upward toward the top of your view
A small arrow indicator will drop down
Tap your fingers together to expand Control Center
Access Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, environments, focus modes, and more
⚠️ Important Note: This catches almost every new user off guard. Move your eyes, not your head. Your head can stay still — only your gaze needs to drift upward.
🏔️ Immersive Environments
One of the most magical Vision Pro features is the ability to change your surroundings completely.
How to Enter an Environment
Open Control Center (eyes up, tap)
Look at the Environments icon
Choose an environment (Mount Hood, Joshua Tree, White Sands, Moon, etc.)
Twist the Digital Crown to the right to immerse further
Twist to the left to dial back to reality
Adjusting Environment Settings
Light mode for daytime versions
Dark mode for nighttime versions
Automatic to switch based on time of day
Sound slider to control ambient noise
💻 The Mac Virtual Display (A Game Changer)
If you have a Mac, this feature alone might justify the headset.
Open your Mac and place it nearby
Look at your Mac through the Vision Pro
A "Connect" button will appear above your Mac
Tap to connect
Your Mac display becomes a massive virtual monitor in front of you
🔍 Quick Tip: You can resize the Mac display by dragging the corners — make it as wide as your wall if you want. Use a Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad to type and click naturally.
🪟 Multitasking with Multiple Windows
You can have multiple apps open simultaneously, placed anywhere around your room.
Open your first app (e.g., Safari)
Drag it to a wall using the bottom bar
Press the Digital Crown to return to the home screen
Open a second app (e.g., Apple TV)
Place it on a different wall or surface
Repeat for as many apps as you want
▶️ Try This Now: Open Safari, place it on the wall in front of you. Then open Notes, place it to your right. Then open Music, place it above. Now you have a full multitasking setup floating in your space.
👤 Setting Up Your Persona
Your Persona is your digital avatar for FaceTime and video calls.
Open Settings
Go to FaceTime and Persona
Tap Capture Persona
Hold the headset in front of your face
Follow the prompts to scan your face from multiple angles
Capture your facial expressions
Review and approve
⚠️ Important Note: Personas are still in beta. The result can look a bit uncanny at first, but it improves with software updates. Make natural expressions during the scan — staring blankly can produce odd-looking results.
📱 Downloading Apps from the App Store
Press the Digital Crown to open your home screen
Look at the App Store and tap to open
Browse categories using the left sidebar menu
Look at any app and tap to learn more
Tap Get or the price button to download
The app appears on your home screen when ready
🔍 Quick Tip: Vision Pro can also run most iPad apps even if they don't have a native Vision Pro version. Look under "Compatible Apps" in the App Store to find them.
🎬 The Disney+ Avengers Tower Experience
This is one of those moments where you realize what Vision Pro is capable of.
Download Disney+ from the App Store
Open the app and look at the left sidebar
Scroll to Environments at the bottom
Choose Avengers Tower (or Star Wars, Scare Floor, etc.)
Twist the Digital Crown right to fully immerse
Watch your favorite Disney+ content surrounded by Iron Man suits
Vision Pro is a single-user device, but you can let others try it through Guest Mode.
Open Control Center
Tap the Guest Mode icon
Choose which apps the guest can access
Hand the headset over within 5 minutes
When they take it off, your device locks automatically
⚠️ Important Note: Optic ID is tied to your eyes — there's no easy way to fully share Vision Pro with a family member. Guest Mode is the workaround for letting others demo it.
AI Agents Are Reading Your Docs. Are You Ready?
Last month, 48% of visitors to documentation sites across Mintlify were AI agents, not humans.
Claude Code, Cursor, and other coding agents are becoming the actual customers reading your docs. And they read everything.
This changes what good documentation means. Humans skim and forgive gaps. Agents methodically check every endpoint, read every guide, and compare you against alternatives with zero fatigue.
Your docs aren't just helping users anymore. They're your product's first interview with the machines deciding whether to recommend you.
That means: clear schema markup so agents can parse your content, real benchmarks instead of marketing fluff, open endpoints agents can actually test, and honest comparisons that emphasize strengths without hype.
Mintlify powers documentation for over 20,000 companies, reaching 100M+ people every year. We just raised a $45M Series B led by @a16z and @SalesforceVC to build the knowledge layer for the agent era.
⭐ Top 3 Takeaways
Master the eye-up gesture for Control Center — Almost every Vision Pro feature lives behind Control Center. Roll your eyes up (not your head) to access it.
Use multiple windows everywhere — Don't just use one app at a time. Place Safari on one wall, Apple TV on another, and Messages above your desk for true spatial multitasking.
The Digital Crown is your reality dial — Twisting it controls how immersive your environment is. Twist right for full immersion, left to bring back your real surroundings. This is how you stay grounded during long sessions.
❓ Common FAQs & Troubleshooting
Q: Why isn't eye tracking working accurately? A: Re-run eye calibration in Settings → Eyes and Hand Setup → Redo Eye Setup. Glasses, lighting, and the position of the headset on your face can all affect accuracy.
Q: Can I use Vision Pro without the ZEISS inserts if I wear glasses? A: No — regular glasses don't fit inside the headset. You'll need prescription ZEISS Optical Inserts or contact lenses to see clearly.
Q: How do I exit an app? A: Look at the bottom of the window — you'll see an X icon next to a circle. Look at the X and tap your fingers together to close the app.
Q: Why can't I move apps around on the home screen? A: Currently, Vision Pro displays apps in alphabetical order with no way to rearrange them. This may change in future updates.
Q: The battery dies too quickly — is there a way to extend it? A: The battery pack provides about 2 hours. You can plug the battery pack into a wall outlet using the included USB-C cable to use Vision Pro indefinitely while plugged in.
Q: Can I watch YouTube on Vision Pro? A: There's no native YouTube app, but you can watch YouTube through Safari by visiting youtube.com directly.
Q: How do I take a screenshot or screen recording? A: Press the Digital Crown and Top Button simultaneously to take a screenshot. For screen recording, add the screen recording control to Control Center via Settings.
Q: My Persona looks weird in FaceTime. Can I fix it? A: Yes — go to Settings → FaceTime and Persona and tap Recapture. Lighting matters a lot — set up in a well-lit room with neutral lighting for the best result.
